Trip at a glance

• 3 nights Whistler
• 2 nights Vancouver
• 4 nights Bella Coola Valley
• Depart Vancouver

Day 1 – Canada travel experience begins – Vancouver to Whistler
Arrive in Vancouver today, and enjoy a scenic transfer up the Sea to Sky highway. Check into your hotel, and head out to the pedestrian village to soak in the lively mountain atmosphere. Overnight in Whistler.

Day 2 – Bear viewing in Whistler
Set out for a morning or afternoon adventure through Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains in search of the local black bear population. Riding along the trails in a 4x4 vehicle keep your eyes open for the other wildlife species in the area such as black-tailed deer, coyote, red-tailed hawks, or western marmots.

Day 3 – Adventures in Whistler
Today choose between a daring adventure whizzing through Whistler’s lush coastal forests and canyons on the Bear Zip line tour or take a guided walk along the glacial snow and ice of Whistler Glacier, and observe the 10,000 year old ice up close. Included in your trip is a Peak to Peak Gondola pass, so make sure to spend some time in the alpine meadows, perfect for day hikes and viewing incredible vistas.

Day 4 – Whistler to Vancouver
Head back down the sea to sky highway by bus, and enjoy two nights in Vancouver. With a mild climate and so much to do, it’s no wonder people flock to this west coast city. Places to visit include Chinatown and Gastown, and Granville Island. But for a real taste of the Vancouver lifestyle, we suggest renting a bicycle and cycling around our famous Seawall and Stanley Park.

Day 5 – Discover Vancouver
Explore Vancouver and the amazing temperate rainforest of Vancouver’s North Shore mountains on today’s guided tour. Highlights of the tour include soaring high over the valley floor on the Capilano Suspension Bridge, and visiting the resident grizzly bears in their habitat on Grouse Mountain. Overnight in Vancouver.

Day 6 – Vancouver to Bella Coola and the Tweedsmuir Park Lodge
Get ready for a spectacular experience, as an internal flight takes you over the Cascade mountains, and into the Bella Coola valley. Watch the mountain peaks and fjords below, before being met by a friendly guide at the Bella Coola airport. Enjoy an evening welcome meal, in your pristine surroundings.

Day 7 – Drift Tour on the Atnarko River
Enjoy a drift on the Atnarko River to look for Grizzly Bears and wildlife, between massive, snowcapped peaks. Eagles, otters and bears, as well as five separate species of salmon call these waters home. You will be awed by the massive trees surrounding you, the crystal clear waters of the river, and the vast mountain ranges.

Day 8 – Tweedsmuir Provincial Park Exploration
Your guides are naturalists with expertise in wildlife, geology, glaciers, forests, ecosystems and photography. They will customize your tour to discover the extinct volcano, lookouts, gorges, canyons, waterfalls and old growth forests that make up this diverse ecosystem. During peak bear viewing season, your guide will lead you right through the grizzly’s natural habitat and point out signs of the local wildlife.

Day 9 – Cultural and Scenic tour of the Bella Coola Valley
After cruising the estuary, enjoy a fascinating cultural tour to see ancient petroglyph gardens, first nations art gallery, and the local totem poles. Bella Coola is Nuxalk First Nation territory, inhabitants of the valley for millennia and creators of a unique and vibrant artistic culture. On the way back to Tweedmsuir Park Lodge there is time for a visit to Walker Island where you will see culturally modified cedar trees, beaver dams and wildlife.

Day 10 – Wilderness walk, then depart the lodge for Vancouver
Alexander Mackenzie first set foot in North America via this trail in 1793 - now it’s your turn. Spend the morning exploring this magical setting in the upper Bella Coola Valley, before departing from Tweedsmuir Park Lodge to get your internal flight back to Vancouver. From here, make your connection home or ask us about adding on additional nights in Vancouver.

Note: Note, activities at the lodge are subject to change in order to maximize bear viewing opportunities.
