Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive in Toronto
Welcome to the bustling energy of Canada’s largest city. Toronto is known for its diverse population, thriving art scene, excellent bars and restaurants and so much more. As soon as your flight lands, you can get out and explore the city. Wander the streets and explore, tempted by the aroma from a Chinese bakery, the sounds of a street performer playing guitar or the colourful fashions in a window display. Take in all the sights and sounds that the city has to offer.

We want to make sure you eat at the best spot in Toronto – and what better spot than the CN tower? Marvel at the spectacular views as you eat world class cuisine. Relax, because you’re travelling the Fresh Tracks Canada way; we have the inside scoop to ensure your vacation is off to a great start!

Day 2 – Explore Toronto
Discover Toronto’s many unique and colourful neighbourhoods. Included in your trip is a hop on / off pass for the next two days, to let you explore the city with ease.

• Option 1: Evening Dinner Cruise
Get out to enjoy a cool evening breeze, as you watch the sun set on Toronto’s harbour, and take in the sights and sounds of the city’s waterfront and breathtaking skyline. A delicious buffet dinner is included.

• Option 2: Twilight Toronto Island Tour by Bike
Just a short ferry across Toronto harbour is the hidden gem of the Toronto Islands. By evening, the daytime crowds have retreated to the city, meaning you experience what few others do, the beauty of the islands after dusk by bicycle!

Day 3 – Explore Toronto or Niagara, then board VIA Rail’s Canadian Train – Toronto to Jasper
Spend a day exploring Toronto or Niagara Falls. Choose 1 of 2 activity options:

• Option 1: Full Day Tour to Niagara Falls
Join a VIP small group tour to see one of the great natural wonders of the world - Niagara Falls. The Hornblower Voyage to the Falls takes you close enough to the falls to feel the spray on your face. Nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake is a charming Canadian town, and the perfect place to unwind on your vacation. With a dedicated driver plus guide, you’ll enjoy a premium sightseeing experience.

• Option 2: Choice of Toronto Food Tour
Take your pick of culinary adventures in Toronto. From a unique pizza tour to a Chinatown exploration. There is also the option to venture to the Corktown+Canary and Distillery District, a neighbourhood with a long Irish immigrant history. Learn about different areas of the city and of course sample some delicious foods along the way including ‘the best dark chocolate in the world’.

In the evening, relax inside your comfortable cabin on VIA Rail’s The Canadian. This train will take you from Toronto to Jasper over the next three days, traveling past pristine lakes, forests and rivers along the way.

Day 4 & 5 – Canadian Rail Journey on the Canadian
Leave the forested lake lands of Ontario and enter the plains of the prairie provinces, where fields of grain stretch to the horizon. Admire the expansive prairie skies and the occasional grain elevator or tiny historic town as you watch the scenery go by from your window.

Day 6 – Arrive in Jasper
Arrive in the quiet mountain town of Jasper, where the scent of pine trees and the calls of mountain songbirds fill the air. This small community is nestled within rugged mountain peaks and surrounded on all sides by rivers, forests, canyons and other natural wonders. Jasper will welcome you with friendly local shops and hotels, providing you comfort and convenience even in the wilds of the Canadian Rockies.

Day 7 – Touring Jasper
Spend an entire day drinking in the untouched beauty of Jasper National Park, from the crystal clear glacial lakes to the rugged mountain peaks.

• Option 1: Maligne Valley Tour with Lake Cruise
Watch out for antlers peeking through the trees on this small group sightseeing tour by mini- coach to Maligne Canyon, Maligne Lake and a cruise to Spirit Island.

• Option 2: Privately Guided Jasper Nature Walk
Explore Jasper National Park on a professionally guided interpretive walk. Enjoy a leisurely pace, and plenty of time for photos and discussion. See wildlife, get close to rare alpine wildflowers, and stunning valley views.
Activity rating: Moderate
(approx. 4 miles | 6.5km) - more challenging hikes are available on request.

• Option 3:
Sidecar Motorcycle Tour
Experience the thrill of riding in a sidecar of a powerful Harley Davidson touring motorcycle - view famous lakes, historical viewpoints and attractions of the Jasper Area. This is a sightseeing tour unlike any other for 1 or 2 people.

Day 8 – Jasper to Lake Louise
Enjoy a day discovering the Icefields Parkway, a truly remarkable rugged mountain landscape. Travel along the spine of the Rockies to picture perfect Lake Louise.

Here are
2 options for exploring the Icefields Parkway today:

• Option 1: Small Group Sightseeing Tour
With a small group and guide, explore the Icefields and its main attractions As you walk along the surface of the enormous Columbia Icefield and the Athabasca Glacier, you will feel like you have been transported back in time millions of years to the ice age. Roll across the glacier on an enormous Ice Explorer vehicle, with wheels as tall as you are and and marvel at the Glacier Skywalk. Keep a look out for elk, moose, mountain goats, sheep or even bears – there’s a great chance that you’ll spot them in this area. In the late afternoon arrive in the stunning Lake Louise area.

• Option 2: Private Icefields Tour with Helicopter Experience
Spend the day with a private driver-guide, to explore the Icefields at your own pace. Then, step away from the crowds and take a helicopter tour abundant in natural beauty, glaciers and waterfalls. Leave from an exclusive Icefields base and soar over Cline Pass and over Cline, Lion and Lioness Glaciers. You’ll also view a spectacular 900ft waterfall flowing from 2 aqua green lakes!

Feature Dinner in Lake Louise
No matter how you choose to tour, this evening you’ll relax and refresh with an indulgent dining experience. Surrounded by spectacular lake views and attentive service, indulge in a 3-course meal in Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise’s Fairview Dining Room.

End your day gazing out over the relaxing turquoise waters of Lake Louise while relaxing at the beautiful Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

Day 9 – Lake Louise to Banff
Today the morning is at your leisure in Lake Louise. You may wish to simply relax and soak in the views and enjoy free time. Or, ask us for our Lake Louise activity menu, from which you can choose activities such as a scenic canoe paddle, Lake Louise interpretive gondola ride, a guided hike or Afternoon Tea.

In the afternoon, transfer to the vibrant mountain village of Banff, a town with a friendly vibe and a happy, laid back energy. Stroll down Banff Avenue and explore the unique local galleries, welcoming cafes and restaurants, sweet shops and quirky boutiques. There’s always something happening in bustling Banff – quite a contrast to the quiet night on the shores of Lake Louise.

Day 10 – Exploring Banff
The town of Banff is nestled within some truly wild and gorgeous mountain scenery, so spend a full day exploring it.

You have 3 options to choose from today to help you enjoy Banff:

• Option 1: Banff Sightseeing Tour
Explore the historic sights, hear the folklore, and visit scenic viewpoints around the Banff town site on a small group bus tour.
Activity rating: Easy

• Option 2: Private Sunrise Photography Tour
Wake up early to experience the magical wilderness of Banff National Park at sunrise. Explore with a private guide and learn how to take great photos. Ideal for the amateur photographer wanting to increase their skills with a manual camera. This is a sure way to make friends and family at home jealous!

• Option 3: Banff Helicopter Tour
Get away from the crowds and soar above the peaks of the Canadian Rockies on a guided helicopter tour. Pristine and breathtaking vistas that will leave you speechless, as you view a landscape inaccessible to the average tourist.

No matter how you choose to explore, all guests have the opportunity to glide up to the top of Sulphur Mountain in a comfortable gondola. Once at the top, you have a panoramic view of the gargantuan mountains and the expanse of the Bow Valley.

Insider tip:
We recommend an evening gondola ride, once the crowds have dispersed for the day.

Day 11 – Onboard the Rocky Mountaineer
Take the Rocky Mountaineer on a scenic journey from the mountains of Banff to the interior of beautiful British Columbia. As you travel, the towering peaks transform into rugged foothills, lakes, rivers and ranch lands where cows and horses roam. Watch spellbound as you pass by glaciers and waterfalls as well as Rogers Pass, Kicking Horse Canyon, the Spiral Tunnels, the Continental Divide and Craigellachie – where the workers who built the Canadian Pacific Railway drove in the last spike. Spend the night in the friendly town of Kamloops.

Day 12 – Arrive in Vancouver
From the dry interior of British Columbia to the lush greenery of the coast, today you will travel from Kamloops to Vancouver. The train weaves through pristine forests, past waterfalls and rivers and alongside dramatic canyons from the fertile Fraser River Valley to the Coast and Cascade Mountains. Take in the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes of the Thompson River.

Day 13 – Departing Vancouver
Catch your departing flight from Vancouver and say goodbye to the amazing wilderness of Canada. You’ll arrive home with many amazing stories to tell about your adventures across Canada by train.

• The privately guided nature walk in Jasper is available from April 26 to October 7 departures, for best walking and hiking conditions we recommend taking this tour in June or later. (eastbound and westbound)
• Twilight Bike Tour on Toronto Islands is available for April 26 to Oct 4, westbound departures (April 19 to October 7 on Eastbound departures).
• Toronto Harbour Dinner Cruise is available from May 18 to September 29 on Westbound departures (May 10 to September 20 for Eastbound departures), tour does not run on Mondays.
• Small group, VIP Tour to Niagara Falls runs from April 29 onwards for westbound departures, prior to this a regular bus tour will be substituted. (For Eastbound departures the tour runs for April 22 departures onwards, regular bus tour will be substituted prior to April 22.)
