Itinerary

Please note, like most of our Canada rail packages & tours, this railway vacation can be customized to your needs just ask one of our local experts when you call.

Eastbound itinerary shown. Westbound follows the same itinerary in reverse.

Day 1 – Arrive in Vancouver – Your Journey Begins
Vancouver is considered one of the most beautiful and livable places in the world. It is a vibrant and energetic city with a picturesque harbor surrounded by mountains and ocean. Your driver will meet you at Vancouver International Airport to take you to the train station for your evening departure. Before your train leaves you will have some time to explore Vancouver.

Check out the quirky independent shops and galleries, dine in one of the local cafes or restaurants or take a walk through the forests of Stanley Park. If you want to see the city on a guided tour, just let us know and we can arrange it.

In the evening, you will board “The Canadian”, which is the most famous train in Canada. It has been transporting travellers from Vancouver to Jasper since the 1950s, when it operated with original steel rail cars. The stretch of track between Vancouver and Jasper offers some of the most stunning scenery in North America, as it crosses the fertile Fraser Valley and the dry British Columbia interior before climbing into the snowcapped peaks of the Canadian Rockies and then carrying you to Jasper National Park.

Day 2 – Arrive in Jasper
Step off the train in Jasper and breathe in the crisp pine-scented air as you gaze at the enormous mountains that surround the town. Jasper is nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies and it is the perfect jumping off point for outdoor adventures in Jasper National Park, which is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend the afternoon exploring here and discovering the friendly, relaxed vibe of this quiet mountain town.

Day 3 – The Icefields Parkway – Jasper to Banff
Travel along the spine of the Rockies, on what is surely one of the most beautiful roads in the world - the Icefields Parkway.

Here are
2 options for exploring the Icefields Parkway today:

• Option 1: Small Group Sightseeing Tour
With a small group and guide, explore the Icefields and its main attractions. Stop to enjoy a picnic lunch, walk on the Athabasca Glacier, and marvel at the Glacier Skywalk. Touring the Rocky Mountains with a small group allows you to have a more personalized experience and gives you a chance to ask your knowledgeable guide questions about the area.
Activity rating: Easy

• Option 2: Private Icefields Tour with Helicopter Experience
Spend the day with a private driver-guide, to explore the Icefields at your own pace. Then, step away from the crowds and take a helicopter tour abundant in natural beauty, glaciers and waterfalls. Leave from an exclusive Icefields base and soar over Cline Pass and over Cline, Lion and Lioness Glaciers. You’ll also view a spectacular 900ft waterfall flowing from two aqua green lakes!
Activity rating: Easy

Day 4 – Rocky Mountain Natural Beauty of Banff
Wake up to stunning mountain scenery as you get an early start this morning. Banff has a lot to discover and we can also arrange other activities, including visits to relaxing spas, golfing trips, fly fishing lessons or horseback riding excursions in the mountains.

You have
3 options to choose from today to help you enjoy Banff to its fullest.

• Option 1: Banff Sightseeing Tour
On a guided bus tour, take a half day tour to explore the historic sites and local landmarks of Banff as well as to learn about wildlife habitats. Admire the views of Norquay, Cascade, Rundle and Tunnel Mountains and marvel at the strange wind-shaped hoodoo rock formations. Stop at “Surprise Corner” on Tunnel Mountain Drive and admire the stunning view of the valley.
Activity rating: Easy

• Option 2: Sunrise Photography Tour
Wake up early to experience the magical wilderness of Banff National Park at sunrise. Explore with a private guide and learn how to take great photos. Ideal for the amateur photographer wanting to increase their skills with a manual camera. This is a sure way to make friends and family at home jealous!
Activity rating: Moderate

• Option 3: Banff Heli-Hike and Picnic
Soar above majestic peaks and get away from the crowds of Banff on a guided heli-hike and picnic. Marvel at pristine and breathtaking vistas that will leave you speechless.
Activity rating: Moderate

No matter how you choose to explore, all guests have the opportunity to glide up to the top of Sulphur Mountain in a comfortable gondola. Once at the top, you have a panoramic view of the gargantuan mountains and the expanse of the Bow Valley.

Insider tip:
We recommend an evening gondola ride, once the crowds have dispersed for the day.

Day 5 – Depart from Calgary
Say goodbye to the fresh alpine air and gorgeous landscapes of the Rockies as your trip comes to an end. On the final day of your journey you will make your way to the Calgary Airport from Banff and board your flight home.
